The Various Pictures of Winter

Winter can be one of the most attractive times of the year to capture photographs, both because of the weather and the way that the communities respond to it. It provides its own technical challenges for photographers, so here is a gallery of beautiful images and an outline of what to consider.

Gender variation in self-reported likelihood of HIV infection in comparison with HIV test results in rural and urban Nigeria

Background

Behaviour change which is highly influenced by risk perception is a major challenge that HIV prevention efforts need to confront. In this study, we examined the validity of self-reported likelihood of HIV infection among rural and urban reproductive age group Nigerians.

Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess whether selected respondents’ characteristics affect the validity of self-reports.

Want to Cut Chocolate Cravings? Take a Walk

A short walk can cut the amount of chocolate and other snacks you eat while at work, a new study suggests.

U.K. researchers created a simulated work environment for 78 people who were regular chocolate-eaters but had gone two days without eating chocolate. They were divided into four groups.

Two groups took a brisk 15-minute walk on a treadmill and then were given either an easy, low-stress task or a more difficult, high-stress task to complete at a desk.
